Inthe ongoing pursuit for excellence in lens manufacturing, Nikondeveloped a special molding technique effective for medium- tolarge-diameter Aspherical lens elements, which were previouslyconsidered to be difficult to mold. Precision Glass Molding (PGM) is thehighly meticulous process by which optical glass is softened byheating, then shaped in an Aspherical mold made of specialheat-resistant material. This technology has become widely adopted inthe manufacture of Aspherical camera lens elements.
